These Are a Few of My Favorite Things!

Summer In A Cup!

When I have a new favorite thing I can’t wait to share it with family and friends. Because of this, I plan on periodically sharing with you those things that I discover which make my life healthier, happier and just plain easier. Hopefully they will enhance your life as well!

It’s summer in California and that means we will have many days where it will be 100 degrees (or higher). Because on days like these I have no desire to cook, I don’t always eat the way I should. I have been looking for something quick, that will give me the nutrition I need, and will help with the inflammation I fight to keep under control. So, I have found the solution: Daily Harvest. I saw an ad on Instagram for this, and after looking at it a few times I decided to give it a try.

Daily Harvest partners with farmers and freezes fruits and vegetables within hours of harvest. Their chefs and nutritionists craft amazing smoothies, soups, ‘harvest bowls,’ and oat bowls. Because everything arrives pre-mixed and measured in a cup, you don’t need to prep anything. You add almond milk, water, broth (etc.) and either blend it or heat and eat! No oven required. Last weekend I enjoyed a Cold Brew & Cacao smoothie. It tasted like the best mocha frappe ever – and you would never guess it contained cauliflower and mushrooms. Even my husband loved the taste and he hates cauliflower! Here’s the run down on this ‘favorite things’ smoothie, which I blended with almond milk:

  • Cold Brew & Cacao Smoothie:
    • Cold brew coffee – a shot of caffeine to get you going!
    • Ashwagandha root – reduces cortisol (stress) levels and improves energy
    • Lion’s Mane mushroom – because it reduces anxiety & gives your brain a boost
    • Cacao – an antioxidant and it calms the nervous system
    • Cauliflower – an anti-inflammatory, immunity boosting food which aids healthy digestion
    • Coconut – because it provides good fats and even iron!

Could you make this from scratch yourself? Of course you could! Would you? Probably not! Because this is the stage of our life when we have a little more time to take care of ourselves, let’s do it! Bad choices and bad habits may start to catch up in the form of increased inflammation. How about we all start to focus a little more on the inside and a little less on the outside? Why? Because when you feel better inside, you have more confidence and can take on the daily challenges of life.

Today I am having Daily Harvest’s Strawberry & Peach smoothie (pictured): strawberries, banana, peaches, raspberries, oats, flax seed and Goji berry. It’s summer in a cup! So, take care of yourself today, be fabulous and be strong!
